Dr. Derek Segall
Dr. Derek Segall BDS
Dr. Derek Segall was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and graduated with a degree in dentistry from the University of the Witwatersrand. Following his graduation, he served in the South African Defense Force for one year before embarking on his career in private practice. After seven years in private practice in South Africa, Dr. Segall decided to immigrate to Canada in 1998.
Shortly after his arrival in Toronto, he joined the dental practices of Uptowne and Amberwood Dental Centres.
Both patients and members of his team comment on Dr. Segall’s kind and gentle disposition, as well as the patience and consideration with which he treats those around him.
His love of dentistry is not his only passion. In addition to maintaining a busy practice Derek enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, is a keen gardener, and an aviation enthusiast. He also tries to keep in shape by working out and biking.
Dr. David Singer
Dr. David Singer BchD
Dr. David Singer was born in South Africa. He received his dental degree from the University of Stellenbosch, in the heart of wine country. He then served in the South African Army for two years working in the Dental Unit practicing general dentistry.
Dr. Singer moved to Canada in 1987. He practiced general dentistry in Summerford, Newfoundland and Edmonton, Alberta before moving to Toronto in 1991 to join the practices of Uptowne and Amberwood Dental Centres.
In his free time, David enjoys spending time with his family, running and pursuing the game of golf.
Dr. Shael Markin
Dr. Shael Markin DDS
Dr. Shael Markin was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Before dentistry, Dr. Markin completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering at the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto. Then, he pursued a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Toronto. During his time in dental school, he was involved in the student council and contributed to several research projects at the University of Toronto and Mount Sinai Hospital. He also was awarded the Academy of Dentistry Prize for the most outstanding student in Community Dentistry.
Dr. Markin enjoys taking time to talk with his patients to understand their goals for dental health. His gentle chairside manner puts patients at ease. He takes pride in working with people with dental anxieties and is certified in Nitrous Oxide (“laughing gas”) sedation for those who need a little extra help relaxing during their treatment.
When not working, Dr. Markin can be found with his wife and children. He is an avid photographer, aviation enthusiast, and always up for a chat about the latest HBO or Netflix series.
